Falcons announce new center and right wingers

The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced they have signed center Dan Cavanaugh and right wingers Ryan Gibbons and Maxime Boisclair (BO-clare) to standard American Hockey League contracts. Per club policy, terms of the deals weren't disclosed.

Cavanaugh, who is a native of Springfield, played in 39 games for the Falcons last season collecting four goals and 15 assists for 19 points. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound center started the 2005-06 campaign with the Philadelphia Phantoms recording two goals and six assists for eight points in 26 games played.

"We are pleased to have Dan under contract for the upcoming season," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "He is a very versatile player who can play center and right wing and he is an exceptional penalty killer. He is a strong two way player who also has the ability to create offense."

Boisclair is entering his first season of professional hockey after scoring 70 goals and adding 60 assists for 130 points in 70 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League during the 2005-06 season. From 2004-2006, Boisclair recorded 121 goals and 117 assists for 238 points in 140 games played for Chicoutimi.

"The Tampa scouts love Boisclair's offensive abilities," said Landon. "Any time you score 70 goals in any league, it shows you have a nose for the net. Maxime adds much needed scoring depth to our organization and I look forward to watching him compete for a spot in Springfield."

Gibbons is also entering his first season of pro hockey after spending the previous five campaigns with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. The 6-foot-5, 212-pound native of West Vancouver, British Columbia collected a career-best 20 goals in 64 games last year with Seattle.

"Ryan Gibbons, according to the Tampa scouts, is a solid two-way winger who plays with an edge and goes to the net very well," said Landon. "He is very strong along the boards and plays well in all three zones. He is another player that Tampa feels will give us depth at the forward position and create some competition for jobs at training camp."
