TRIP TO SEE CATS

The Agawam Golden Agers, Chapter Two is sponsoring a trip to The Warner Theatre in Torrington, Connecticut to see CATS. The trip is on May 7 and is open to the public. The cost is $64 per person and includes transportation, an elegant buffet lunch at The Cornucopia in Torrington, the show and all gratuties. Lunch will feature garden salad, baked stuffed sole, chicken piccata, stuffed shells, potato, fruit salad, desserts, and beverage.The bus will leave the Agawam Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. For more information or reservations, please contact Art Usher at (413) 786-3567.



PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

In preparation for Agawam's kindergarten registration, a parent information night will take place March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Granger School. Parents of all children entering kindergarten in September 2006 are invited to attend. The program will be to answer questions parents might have in regards to their children entering school in September. Children who will be five years of age prior to Sept. 1, 2006 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten in September.



KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

The Agawam Public Schools will conduct a registration and screening of the children entering kindergarten in September 2006. Children who will be five years of age prior to Sept. 1, 2006 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten in September. Massachusetts Special education Regulations require that each school district provides service for identifying children with special needs. The screening is designed to review a child's development and assist in identification of children who mat be referred for further evaluation. This process will be completed during the kindergarten registration, which will take place at the elementary schools. The screening dates are: Granger School, March 20 and 21; Clark School, March 22 and 23; Phelps School, April 11 and 12; Robinson Park school, April 26 and 28. Parents who have not already contacted their neighborhood school should do so immediately. Children will be screened by appointment only.



MEDICARE PART D DRUG COVERAGE

Get help with Medicare Part D drug coverage at the Agawam Senior Center. Workshop at 10 a.m. on Feb. 9. Janet D. Allen, Certified Senior Advisor, is a knowledgeable consultant with 12 years experience in offering help to local seniors in choosing a plan for prescription drugs.



AJWC MEETING SPECIAL SPEAKERS

Join the Agawam Junior Women's club as they welcome guest speakers from the Boys and Girls Club at their February meeting. William Parks executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield, and Jim Hurley regional director will be speaking on how to go about starting a Boys and Girls Club in Agawam. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday February 21st at the Captain Leonard House. Any Agawam woman, age 19 and above is welcome to join the AJWC. "THE LITTLE SNOW GIRL"

Kit and Kaboodle's Tiny Tales Theatre will present "The Little Snow Girl" by Nellie McCaslin on Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. at The Red Door Theatre, 152 S. Westfield St., Feeding Hills, MA. This audience participation play for the very young child tells the story of how a girl made of snow comes to life for an elderly couple who had always wanted a child of their own. Although she will melt indoors, the couple delights in watching her play outside with the neighborhood children. Then one day, the greed of the old people causes the Snow Girl to leave them. They are heartbroken, but love and remorse have a magical effect, and their little Snow Girl is restored to them... this time as a real child. This Russian Folktale, adapted by Nellie McCaslin is presented with special permission from the Dramatic Publishing Company, Woodstock, IL. Actors for this production include, Marie Hannoush and Robbie Simpson of W. Springfield as the Snow Girl and The Old Man, respectively, Maddie Munson and Alexandra O'Halloran of Suffield, CT as The Old Woman and the Red Fox, respectively, Kati Lewantowicz of Southampton as the Gray Wolf and the Sprite Princess. "LOVE IS IN THE AIR"

Treat your Valentine to Kit and Kaboodle Productions' "Love Is In The Air" a Cabaret at the Red Door Theatre, 152 S. Westfield St., Feeding Hills, on Feb,17 AND 18 @ 7:30 p.m. and Feb.19 at 2 p.m."Love Is In The Air" features music, comedy and skits about the various aspects of love and relationships. Music is from genres such as Country Western, 50's rock and roll, Broadway, and nostalgic Big Band, etc. The evening features the talents of performers Marilene Allen, Stacia Jacobson & Steve Venne of Agawam, Margie Secora of Southwick and Lyle Pearsons of Suffield,CT. Accompanying the group are Josie Holdsworth of Feeding Hills on piano and John Secora of Southwick on percussion. Patrons are seated at candle-lit tables complete with chocolate heart and silk rose. Tickets are $13 per adult, $25 per couple, $11 senior or student. Groups of 6 or more receive a 10% discount. OPEE SUMMER CAMP APPLICATIONS

The Chicopee Parks and Recreation Department announced they are taking applications for the following positions for the OPEE Summer Adventures program: counselors, leaders in training, and specialists (i.e. drama, arts, music). Counselors and specialists must be first aid and CPR certified by the beginning of the program on July 3, and muyst be at least 18 years old. Leaders in training must be ages 14 and 15. All positions must fill out applications and go through an interview process when contacted. HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING

The Chicopee Historical Society will meet at the Chicopee Public Library Henry Bazan Community Room on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. George Swistak, reference librarian, will conduct a tour of the Chicopee History room and discuss the Chicopee history collection. The public is invited to attend.



REGISTRATION INFO MEETING

St. Joan of Arc-St. George School, 587 Grattan St., will host a Registration Information Meeting for all parents who are interested in registering their child(ren), Kindergarten-Grade 8 for September 2006. LES MISERABLES

This musical trip is planned by the Chicopee Senior Center Travel Club for March 22. The bus will take us to the beautiful Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT for this multiple Tony award winning show. CRUISE OF ALASKA

ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Chicopee Senior Travel Club. We're going to Foxwood in the morning where you can enjoy a pre-show luncheon followed by an afternoon of pure Irish entertainment at the Garde Arts Center in New London, CT. COMPUTER CLASSES

There are openings in the Computer Classes which are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. in the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Court beginning Feb. 7 and Feb. 10. Classes are offered for beginners, intermediate and advanced users. Friday classes are for those who would like to learn how to use the internet. Interested persons should call the Senior Center immediately. Persons who would like to take classes in the future should call to have their names put on the list. When there are six people interested in the same class, one will be formed and calls will be made to notify participants. IRISH NIGHT

The Ancient Order of Hibernians invites the public to attend the 13th annual Irish Night, a St. Patrick's dinner dance on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. The meal will feature Danny Curran's famous spare ribs, as well as a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner. Music will be provided by the Ireland Parish Band; members of the Springfield Kilty Band and McDermott Academy of Irish Dance will also perform. SPAGHETTI SUPPER

Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm St. will host a spaghetti supper on Feb. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $4.50 for adults, $2.50 for children 8-12, and free for children under 8 years old. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, homemade dessert, coffee and cold drinks. Take out is available by calling 533-6093 after 2 p.m.



THIRD ANNUAL TALENT SHOW

Faith United Methodist Church's Third Annual Talent Show will take place on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. Sign-ups will be held Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. For more info, call the church at 191 Montcalm St. at 533-6093. There will be singers, dancers and musicians. Refreshments will be on sale.

MOZART SONGS & CHAMBER MUSIC

Wistariahurst Museum will host the Arcadia Players in celebration of Mozart. Concert goers will be delighted by Arcadia's informed sense of period style in this intimate setting. A pre-concert talk will be given before the performance. HOLYOKE CREATIVE ARTS CLASSES

New classes are forming at the Holyoke Creative Arts Center for the early Spring term. Saturday classes include upholstery meets from (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), stained glass (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and doll making (9 a.m. to 12 noon). Wednesday's class is charcoal drawing (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.) Thursday's class is egg tempera painting (9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.). Friday's class is clay sculpture (10 a.m. to 12 noon). COLLECTING BOOKS

Friends of the Springfield Library are collecting books within a 10-mile radius of the Central Library for a Book Sale targeted for June. Schedule a pickup at your house by calling Peggy at the library, 263-6828, ext. 278. We are looking for fiction, non-fiction, cook books, comic books, children's books, DVD's, VHS tapes, audio tapes, books on tape, CDs, vinyl records. These items need to be in good condition. What is NOT WANTED is textbooks, magazines, library discards or Reader's Digest condensed books.



SENIOR ACTION COUNCIL

The Springfield Chapter of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council will convene on Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Church in the Acres, located at 1383 Wilbraham Road in Springfield. There will be a representative of the Springfield Schools Volunteers present and Representative Gale Candaras (D-Wilbraham).

ALLIANCE FOR INJURED WORKERS

Former State Senator Linda Melconian will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Alliance for Injured Workers meeting at 4 p.m. on Feb. 15. She will discuss how injured workers can make lawmakers aware of their issues. The meeting will take place at the First Congregational Church of West Springfield, 20 Lathrop Street. BREW & STEW

Brew & Stew, a family Irish Night, will take place at Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield on March 4. Stew will be served in bread bowls. IRISH NIGHT

An Irish Night, hosted by the West Springfield Knights of Columbus Council 2212, Park St., will take place Saturday March 11 from 7-11 p.m. Corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served. OTTOWA TULIP FESTIVAL TRIP

The Friends of the West Springfield Public Library will be sponsoring a trip to the Ottawa Tulip Festival, leaving West Springfield on May 15, and returning on May 18. The price is $565 per person, double occupancy, and if a single room is requested, there is an additional fee of $225 per person. These fees are all inclusive. Travelers must be fully mobile. Visitors will be staying at the deluxe Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Gatineau, Ottawa. Breakfasts and dinners are included in the fee. Participants will have time to visit the tulip gardens in Commissioner's Park, Tulip Friendship Village, as well as time to browse and shop. On the last day prior to leaving, participants will visit the architectural masterpiece, the Canadian Museum of Civilization. A $50 per person refundable deposit, made payable to Friends of the W. Spfld. Public Library, and mailed to the library at 200 Park St., West Springfield, MA 01089, should be made prior to Feb. 24. RUSSELL BIOMASS FACILITY DEBATE

The Westfield River Environmental Center at Westfield State College will offer a public debate on the proposed Russell biomass plant at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16, in Scanlon Banquet Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Russell Biomass LLC has proposed to build the biomass powered electrical generation facility in Russell. This project entails many controversial environmental, social, economic, and planning issues. In this debate, representatives of Russell Biomass LLC and opponents of the project will respond to questions the audience submits in writing. Light refreshments will be served.
